This is beyond dope!

Remember back in the day when you used to record songs off the radio onto cassette tapes? Those were the good ‘ol days. You would sit and wait all day for your favorite songs to come on. Once you heard them, you quickly pressed down the record and play buttons and hovered your finger over the stop button, in order to end the tape before the commercial break or the radio host/dj interrupted. On rare occasions you were able to record a full song without any interruptions. Oh, how times have changed.

In celebration of 50 years of the beloved cassette tape, here’s a live 16-track mashup titled “The Mixtape” by the folks at Ithaca Audio (a UK-based creative audio studio). This mashup, which includes Etta James‘ “Something Got a Hold of Me,” Soul II Soul‘s “Back to Life,” and The Supremes‘ “Come See About Me,” was performed on a 23-year-old Tascam 1” tape machine.
